Sat Sri Akal — Welcome
The Sikh community in Leicester grew after the Second World War as families arrived from India and East Africa. The congregation first worshipped in modest premises on New Walk during the 1960s, before moving to the current Holy Bones site in 1989 — a former knitwear factory that was extensively converted into a purpose-built Gurdwara.
Today the complex houses multiple Darbar Halls, a Langar Hall, the Guru Nanak Sikh Museum, a Punjabi school, a library and community facilities. Whether you come to pray, to learn, or simply to see the museum, you will be met with the same welcome.

About Langar
Established 1992
The Guru Nanak Sikh Museum holds historical artefacts, religious manuscripts, paintings and documents, alongside models of important Sikh sites including the Golden Temple at Amritsar, and displays on Sikh regimental and military history.
The museum regularly welcomes schools, universities and international visitors. Group visits can be arranged in advance with the committee.

Early morning
Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is installed and the morning prayers are recited.
Morning
Devotional hymns and scriptural explanation in the Darbar Hall.
Midday onwards
Free vegetarian meal served to everyone in the Langar Hall.
Evening
Evening prayers followed by the respectful closing of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Our heritage
The Gurdwara made history when HM Queen Elizabeth II visited during her Golden Jubilee celebrations — widely recognised as the first official visit by a reigning British monarch to a gurdwara in the United Kingdom, and an important moment in relations between the Sikh community and the British state.
Each year the Gurdwara is the starting point for Leicester's Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan, one of the largest Sikh processions in Europe. It sets off from Holy Bones and travels across the city to Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara on East Park Road, drawing thousands of participants.
