The Gurdwara welcomes visitors of all faiths and none. If it is your first time in a Sikh place of worship, this page tells you everything you need to know.
Etiquette
What to expect when you arrive
None of this is complicated, and nobody will mind if you are unsure — just ask, and someone will show you.
Remove your shoes
Shoe racks are provided just inside the entrance before you go upstairs.
Cover your head
A scarf or bandana is required for everyone. Head coverings are available to borrow at the entrance.
Dress modestly
Clothing that covers the shoulders and legs is appreciated. There is no other dress requirement.
Wash your hands
Please use the washrooms before entering the prayer hall.
Sit respectfully
Congregation sits on the floor in the Darbar Hall. Chairs are available if you are unable to sit on the floor.
Share the Langar
Everyone is welcome to eat, regardless of faith or background. There is never a charge.
Opening & timings
When to visit
The Gurdwara is open daily from the morning Prakash until the evening Sukhasan. Saturdays, Sundays and Gurpurabs are the busiest and liveliest times, with extended Kirtan programmes.
Timings shift with the seasons and around festivals, so please call 0116 251 7460 to confirm before you travel — especially for museum visits.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is installed and the morning prayers are recited.
Morning
Kirtan & Katha
Devotional hymns and scriptural explanation in the Darbar Hall.
Midday onwards
Langar
Free vegetarian meal served to everyone in the Langar Hall.
Evening
Rehras Sahib & Sukhasan
Evening prayers followed by the respectful closing of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Practical information
By train
Leicester railway station is around a 20 minute walk, or a short bus or taxi ride, from Holy Bones.
By bus
Haymarket and St Margaret’s bus stations are both within walking distance of the Gurdwara.
By car
Holy Bones is just off Vaughan Way in the city centre. On-street parking is limited — the Highcross and Vaughan Way car parks are nearby.
Accessibility
Chairs are available in the Darbar Hall for anyone unable to sit on the floor. Please call ahead so we can help with access on arrival.
Photography
Please ask a member of the committee before taking photographs, particularly in the prayer halls and museum.
Groups
School and community groups are very welcome and should be arranged in advance so a guide can be available.
